HAPPY PLACE JOURNAL PAGES

This is a set of journal pages I had started some time ago and it was in a pile of "to be finished eventually" - so I pulled it out and finished it up.  The solitude of the beach is a happy place - but unfortunately, unless I travel some distance - all that is around here are lakes and rivers - nothing tropical.  I used some napkins cut apart and split apart and decoupaged them down with Finnabair Art Basic Soft Matte Gel.  Here are a few details:

Scenes - napkins
Background:  Tim Holtz Distress Paints Wild Honey, Scattered Straw, Rusty Hinge and Antique Bronze
Mediums:  Prima/Finnabair Art Basics Clear Gesso and Soft Matte Gel; 13 Arts Sand Grit
Stamps:  Tim Holtz Worn Text

This is a second entry for Scrap Around the World and 13 Arts challenges.  There will be a link directly under each graphic which will take you directly to the site of each challenge.

GUARD KITTY

This layout features Chewey, one of my two cats.  I will create another layout soon with Missy.  Chewey believes he is a guard cat - and walks the sun room/porch back and forth in nice weather - chattering at bunnies and birds.

This layout will cover three challenges, as follows:
Scrap Around the World;
13 Arts; and
Mixed Media Monthly Challenge.

The information and links for these 3 challenges follow.
The links are directly below the graphic for each challenge.

FOR THE SCRAP AROUND THE WORLD CHALLENGE, I USED THE TURQUOISE ON MY LAYOUT.

FOR THE MIXED MEDIA MONTHLY CHALLENGE I OPTED FOR INKS AND MISTS; STENCILS AND PASTE; BIRDS OF A FEATHER AND MAY FLOWERS

Flaming Heart Ex Votos I from the Relics and Artifacts Collection

Hi, I've been working on this project for about 4 days.  It probably doesn't look like it took 4 days to complete, however, I would put one layer of texture paste on and let it dry for 24 hours before applying the next layer.  There are 3 layers of built-up texture paste on the wooden tag.  (I also added two more tag layers behind the first tag to hold the weight of the texture paste).

I learned this technique from a tutorial by Barbara at Joggles.com (along with so many other techniques - just haven't had time to try them all out). She used one of Tim Holtz's books to create a gorgeous look - as if the heart and wings (Relics & Artifacts pieces) are emerging from within the plaster/texture paste and are a part thereof.  This is a link to that tutorial and a picture of her most gorgeous completed book on Joggles.com:

Worn Cover Transformed with Ex Votos

Be sure and check out Barbara's tutorials - she does an awesome job.  And, her shop, Joggles.com - is really awesome as well.

Anyway, I decided to try out a large tag before going onto another larger project - to make sure I enjoyed the end result - which I did. I will use this technique on another project and probably use one of the Relics & Artifacts sets with wings as well.  The Relics & Artifacts line is by Sandra Everston for Prima - very cool pieces.
